John Larsen Southard, MA — An Historian, Author, and Speaker Specializing in Arizona History

John Larsen Southard is an award-winning historian who specializes in Arizona history, with an emphasis on the Phoenix metropolitan area. John has worked on contract projects for the Scottsdale Historic Preservation Office, Tempe Historic Preservation Office, Midtown Museum District Neighborhood Association, Flinn Foundation / Arizona Center for Civic Leadership, Papago Salado Association, and private clients in Arizona, California, and Kentucky. He has also spoken on various Arizona history topics throughout the state and presented on Arizona history at numerous conferences.

Currently, John contracts as a freelance historian; works as program manager for StoryTour (a community history / historic preservation endeavor); sits on the Scottsdale Historic Preservation Commission; serves on the boards of the Arizona History Convention, Arizona Historical Society — Central Arizona Chapter, Arizona Preservation Foundation, and the Fund for Central Arizona History; is an Arizona Humanities Council Scholar; and teaches American history courses at Paradise Valley Community College.
